Micro needling is also called collagen induction therapy. It is a minimally-invasive non-surgical and non-ablative procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury.
As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The controlled injury triggers the body to fill these micro-wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed. This neocollagenesis following the treatment leads to reduction of scars and skin rejuvenation, i.e., improved skin texture, firmness and hydration.
Collagen Induction Therapy (more commonly known as micro-needling) is an advanced treatment that is done using a pen-like device with detachable, disposable needle heads. The tiny needles contained in these attachments are used to pierce the skin, with the depth of piercing ranging from superficial epidermis to papillary dermis. The penetration of the microneedles into the epidermal layer of the skin creates numerous micro-injuries, stimulating the fibroblast cells to increase collagen production. Although results are visible within 10 days, the actual result only becomes apparent after approximately 90 days, since it takes around 3 months for the newly produced collagen fibres to mature. Upon maturation, these fibres contract, thereby creating the firmer, plumper appearance.
The treatment offers remarkable improvement when compared to other anti-aging treatments. Improvement can be seen in age-related conditions, such as firmness, texture, wrinkle depth and cellular turnover. Additionally, this treatment targets pigmentation, refines pore size and improves product absorption and penetration. Microneedling is furthermore used to stimulate hair growth and improve the appearance of stretchmarks and scarring. The advantage of needling is that it activates the skin’s self-repair mechanism, rather than having a foreign substance injected into the skin or having other higher risk procedures that produce similar results.
Benefits of skin needling:
– Stimulate circulation
– Improve skin nutrition and oxygen transporting
– Increase synthesis of collagen, elastin, GAG’s.
– Target glycation
– Increase skin firmness
– Improve skin texture
– Minimise pores
– Vastly improve the appearance of acne scarring
– Improve pigmentation and brightens the skin
– Decrease wrinkle depth
– Improve the appearance of superficial rhytides
– Plump the skin due to dermal thickening
– Improve cellular turnover (Mitosis)
– Improve product penetration and absorption
– Intensely exfoliating
– Used to improve the appearance of stretchmarks and scars on the body
– Stimulate hair growth for the treatment of alopecia
